Vendor Notes

The dry leaves offer a fragrant blend of vegetal and spice notes, evolving to a creamy aroma reminiscent of violets when steeped. On the palate, this brew is rich and thick, presenting distinct vanilla undertones and a surprising coconut oil nuance in early infusions. As the session progresses, these sweet, oily aspects gently recede, revealing the iconic vegetal character of this heirloom white tea varietal.

About This Tea

What does Gongmei (Heirloom) taste like?
The dry leaves offer a fragrant blend of vegetal and spice notes, evolving to a creamy aroma reminiscent of violets when steeped. On the palate, this brew is rich and thick, presenting distinct vanill. It leans creamy, vegetal and spicy.
How should I brew Gongmei (Heirloom)?
Water around 75–85 °C (167–185 °F). In a mug, steep 3–5 min. For gongfu, use 4–5 g per 100 ml, 20–40 s steeps. You'll get to see how the flavor changes across multiple rounds. Pretty forgiving. Oversteeping by a bit won't ruin it the way it would with a green.
Where does Gongmei (Heirloom) come from?
Grown in Fujian, China from the Xiao Cai Cha cultivar. This batch is from the Spring 2022 harvest.
How much does Gongmei (Heirloom) cost?
Starts at $6.50 from One River Tea, or about $0.20/g. A 25g package gets you around 4 gongfu sessions at ~6 g each, which works out to about $1.20 per session. Explore more white teas on Teadar.
